I am a member and host of another songwriting community called the East Nashville Song Salon—a weekly gathering where we critique each other’s newly written songs. I sincerely credit my growth as a writer to my membership in “Salon.” At one of our sessions, a fellow writer spoke of a challenge she had taken to write a song that had a total of 20 words or fewer—words could be repeated, but totaling no more than 20. I took on this challenge as my own, and this piece of longing and resignation emerged.
